Indonesia generates over 25 million tons of waste annually, with nearly 66% mismanaged, including 1.04 million tons in Bali alone, where open dumping remains widespread. Addressing this crisis requires integrated upstream and downstream interventions that work in tandem to form effective waste management policy.

The United In Diversity (UID) Foundation, through its UID Talk 24 platform titled "Which One Matters the Most? Upstream or Downstream on Waste Management," will serve as a discussion forum aimed at examining the alignment between waste restriction regulations and the readiness of the recycling industry. In its role as a neutral convener and knowledge broker, UID will help bring together various relevant stakeholders through the exchange of perspectives, experiences, and knowledge.
