In 2021, the number of women contributing to the field of science, particularly STEM in Indonesia, reached 40.6%. Although this achievement is quite good, the figure still lags behind neighboring countries such as Malaysia (48.6%) and Thailand (53.2%). Women's participation in the STEM workforce remains low, with only 8% of women in Indonesia estimated to be working in the STEM sector, despite 35-37% of graduates being women. If the lack of female representation at senior levels in the professional world, especially in STEM, is left unaddressed, it will become a problem for women in the future. If female representation is not further encouraged, the end product of innovation will only be dominated by masculine bias.
United In Diversity (UID) considers it important to provide a space for dialogue through UID Talk, which brings together outstanding women in the world of STEM to inspire enthusiasm and commitment among young Indonesian women to enter the world of STEM. UID Talk is intended to enrich networking and mutual understanding through the exchange of perspectives, experiences, and knowledge, supported by UID's role as a neutral convener and knowledge broker. UID Talk is organized with the aim of becoming a forum for active and meaningful discussion for all parties and stakeholders involved.
